DUDES THRIVING IN MIDLIFE
Hi guys,
Welcome to this page, where I will explain in more detail what I have in mind when it comes to dudes (in midlife) connecting consciously in order to THRIVE through this transitional period. If you have been invited to join the crew, this will give you a better sense of what we are about.
The basics are that we (a bunch of guys between 40 and 60), will have a monthly online 'Gathering' where we will go through a bunch of personal development topics collectively, share some personal experiences collectively, plus do 1-on-1 or groups of 3 "breakouts" where you get a change to have deeper, personal conversations, with someone who might not be in your social circle. The aim is to have about 8-10 people on each Monthly Gathering, to enable to right level of communication and connection. The conversations also do not have to be politically correct (or free of "F" bombs), but with general respect for the other guys in the group (including confidentiality for anything discussed).
The group will include managers, CEO's, business owners, executives and the likes. Most of them may have worked with me (Carl) or followed my work (e.g. reading my newsletters).
A big focus of the conversation will be about physical and mental health, but we will also dive into different subjects, and draw on the personal experience of the group members. There will also be an 'accountability' element when it comes to checking in on optimum health practices, to ensure everyone stays on track. We won't be hugging trees or signing songs, but we will aim to have deeper, conscious conversations, with a degree of vulnerability plus self-awareness and reflection.
A general outcome of my work is about helping people to become BETTER HUMANS (plus better dad's, brothers, sons, leaders, bosses, husbands, boyfriends, etc.).
An example of the Topics we will discuss include:
- Physical activity and how it might change / evolve as we get older.
- Nutrition (and busting some of the myths).
- Morning Routines.
- Habits (creation of good habits and busting bad habits).
- Conversations around mindset and consciousness.
- Discussion on stress management and tools / tips / strategies.
- Men's health stuff (physical and mental).
- Working with women in the workplace and dealing with issues related to DEI, wokeness, appropriate behaviour, and general management (especially in a highly regulated and litigated workplace like Australia).
- Relationship stuff (including with intimate partners and children).
- The pillars of optimum health (physical activity, nutrition, detoxification, sleep, mindfulness, wholeheartedness).
- Faith, spirituality, that thing bigger than us, plus mortality, death and dying.
Breakout Conversations
In each Gathering, we will aim to have 1-3 breakout sessions, of about 10 mins each, which will either be with 2 or 3 people, and might include exploring questions or topics like:
1) "If you are avoiding something at the moment, what might it be?"
2) "What are your Primary Goals for this year?"
3) "What is your biggest personal challenge at the moment?"
4) "What is your biggest professional challenge at the moment?"
Administration
- The sessions will be Monthly.
- The time for the session will be 60-90 mins.
- The calls will be on Zoom, and the same link for all the Gatherings.
- You will get a couple of reminders leading up to the Gathering, but I won't be spamming you. We will lock in dates at least 1-2 months in advance so you can schedule the meeting in your diaries.
- Depending on numbers in the future, we might cap the Gatherings to 10 pax, so it might be that you have to lock in your attendance and availability prior to date of the Gathering to secure your spot. The thought is that we will need about 20 dudes "on the books", to guarantee we have about 8-10 attendees at each Gathering, given that people will have commitments at different times, and exclude them from attending. But this is a new project, so we will see what works out best for everyone.
- You expected to keep all of the conversational details confidential (in particular personal shares or stories), unless they are general health teachings you would like to share.
- If you are a dick, you won't be invited back.
Other Ideas
One of the suggestions that came up in one of our 'Gatherings' was that regular attendees, who have done my Ignite Your Inner Greatness: A 30-Day Challenge (online program) could have access to offer that as a 'Free Gift' to someone they think would benefit from it. There was also the suggestion that rather than the person pay nothing for the program, they make a small donation to Bali Street Mums, as the compensation (and so they have some 'skin in the game').
We will always be up to suggestions as to how we can become better humans, and help those around us become better humans too.
THE COST
For now, there is no direct cost to attend the Monthly Gatherings, but a few of the founding members like the idea of incorporating some charity work.
So instead of paying me (Carl) anything for planning and facilitating this program, you are encouraged to make a donation (of any amount) to this Charity.
During the Covid period, Bali Street Mums actually 'bought' a young girl, who was being sold by her family for $500, to ensure she was not trafficked (so they do some really great work).

Troy who is one of the founding 'dudes' was in the military, and did a number of survival training courses, so he might be taking the lead on this.
